While struggling with their own love life at the same time. Synopsis: Wedged in between the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean is the city of Santa Monica, a busy but much smaller metro-plex. Along Wilshire boulevard near the edge of Hollywood in the high rent district sits a medical building housing the offices of Daniels, Forrest and Chin, clinical psychologists dealing with marital relations, human behavior and family counseling. One would expect that such educated men, all experts in dealing with the human psyche, would themselves live an orderly lifestyle, perhaps even mundane…very much in control of their own human emotions, but not so. Our story begins in a beach front restaurant, where Donald and Lester meet for breakfast every two weeks, to discuss their business and love life. On this occasion they find themselves in the same predicament, single and confused. Take Doctor Donald Forest…he's very much a player in the bachelor's lifestyle. So fearful that married patients would take offense at advice from someone who has never experienced the pangs of holy matrimony, he wears a wedding band in the office to avoid confrontation. Donald has just been dumped by his fiancée ending a two year relationship and finds the situation very hard to deal with…heartbreaking. But not to worry, Donald meets someone on a blind date at a Re-engagement party. …a vice cop by the name of Sally who is in to sadomasochism. Hmmm. Kinky sex? Sally and Donald really hit it off at the party, they decide to get a room in the hotel for some dark room fun. Well, that's when the story turns into a game of cat and mouse. What about Doctor Daniels? Slipping down the slopes towards old age but running like hell after the fountain of youth trying desperately not to lose his libido. He loves younger women and after a chance meeting at the restaurant, has invested a fortune in a recording studio in order make the young woman, who happens to be a terrific singer, a star. He knows better but then, he's desperate. He's an old man in love and sometimes they do stupid things. Will it work? Who knows? Only time will tell. And there’s Doctor Chin from Hong Kong, a witty but brilliant doctor who loves the philosophy of Confucius. He is married to a trans-gender…she used to be a he. Weird, but he's happy. As one can see, giving advice in love and relationships of the heart is a very difficult thing to do especially when one's own life is like that of a dingy being tossed about on a stormy sea. Even for doctors who are experts. Knowledge isn't everything. And neither is experience. There are reasons for the madness, though most of us don't know exactly what they are…the chemistry that sends us plummeting into a relationship without reservation with another human being like a magnet sucking up a nail. So what is that mysterious attraction that causes our heart to palpitate and the soul in our psyche to be blindsided? A hint: it's a four letter word. Love. |
