Casting
The process of hiring actors to play the characters in a
script, typically done by a casting director, but with some
input from a director, producer, or studio.

Casting Director
AKA: Extras Casting, Casting Assistant, Casting
Associate
The person who auditions and helps to select all of the
speaking role actors in film, television shows or plays.
The CD must possess a vast knowledge of the actor
pool and be able to match a variety of actors with just
the right role. Directors and producers rely on the
Casting Director to assist them with assembling the
perfect cast for their production. Casting Directors are
also responsible for serving as the liaison between the
director, and the actors and their agents. CDs negotiate
the deals with agents once the actors have been cast
and are also responsible for the contracts and SAG of
each actor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Casting Society of America
AKA: CSA
The Casting Society of America is a professional
organization of Casting Directors working in theatre, film,
and television. The C.S.A. is not a union or a guild,
therefore every Casting Director working in these
mediums is not necessarily a member of this
organization.

Casting

A monologue and sides, seems to be too much for some
actors. But I think you should really work for a role and
not just pop in for 3 to 5 minutes and hope you get the
role. They do call it show business, so show me your
skills, people.

Casting:

Sadistic -  Deborah Reece

A casting director who has done 150+ hours of TV and many features said
something that BLEW SOME ACTORS MINDS. An actor asked about
"self-promotion." The response from the casting director wasn't intended to be a
big deal, but it made sense.... "No one in this industry really cares about your
career...except for you."  That seemed so simple and she didn't mean it in a harsh
way.

But, it got me wondering...How many actors really see it this way... Sure, we all
know it is a tough business, but... We ALSO have a slew of people trying to help
us, many who are supportive, other encouraging actors, the great people you
meet in workshops who really do help you in your skills, casting directors who
are supportive, your agent or manager who is encouraging, the person taking
your headshot is hopefully helpful!   But when it boils down to it. Honestly??? NO
one really cares about your career or dreams any more than YOU!!!

So, what are you doing to prepare for success? Are you in classes? Practicing
cold reading skills? Does your headshot look great or is it...blah??? Are you in
casting workshops? Are you marketing yourself?

Are you exploring voice over as a way to add to your skill set, credits and bank
balance? Do you regularly work out with other actors, casting directors or
teachers who are honest with you about where you are at and how to improve?
