Guitarist --- Joe Byrd Joe was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and has been passionate about guitar from the age of 10. After recognizing his unwavering interest in music, Joe’s father purchased his first electric guitar for his 12th birthday. From that point on, Joe would rarely be seen without a guitar in his hands. By the age of 15, he began playing with older musicians in a local clubs and realized that he loved performing and writing songs. Joe sought out any opportunities to perform anywhere he could. After graduating from high school, he immediately went on tour with an R&B and Pop band. He decided to make music his life, but also wanted to attend college to get a degree graphic art. After attending four semesters of college, he left to continue pursuing music ventures and worked as a studio musician on various projects which included artists such as Mariah Carey, Men at Large, as well as numerous other guitar solos on tracks for Gospel, R&B and Jazz artists. His musical influences include, R&B, Gospel, Rock, Funk, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban jazz and Classical. Soon, Joe began to be sought out for various recording projects as a studio musician and eventually met a jazz sax player from Detroit and was given access to his studio for creating and co- writing other projects. Joe has performed with artists such as Gerald Levert and Trevel Productions, Kym Waters, Angela Bofill, Kenny Latimore, Chante Moore as well as opening for many other nationally known artists. Joe moved to Los Angeles in the fall of 2005 to pursue better opportunities in music and explore avenues to get into TV and film music production. He has released four Cds and is currently producing music for other vocal artists and well as working on a new Cd to be released in the Fall of 2010. |
Lead Singer -- Ashley Sey My earliest memories are of me as a little girl dancing around my older sisters as they sang in harmony to Stevie Wonder. My big brother would be on the piano pounding it out making the wonderful sound float through the house. This is one of the rare occasions that my family had happy times together. I wish that I had more examples of such good times. However, the laughter faded away, but the music still remained. It helped keep me sane through everything. This is my story. I grew up the baby of five children in a small town called Thomaston,Ga. The closest sibling was 7 years older then me. A very big gap when you’re little. So by the time that I came into my singing voice at the age of 9 there was no one at the house left to sing with. All of them had moved out and my parents had gotten a divorce. So that left me and my mother. M mother worked two jobs at a time to support us while I went through school. Often that would leave me as a latch key kid. Her long hours away left me plenty of alone time to work on my act. I would put on a show mimicking idols of the past and present: Aretha, Anita, Whitney, Mariah, etc. By the time I was in middle school I was a shy little chubby girl. But when I would hit the stage I was a power house and no one could stop me. Often times I would receive several solos and duets, out shining my duet partners. However, at the age of 16 the telling signs of age set in on my mother. That year I quiet school and started working for her company. At night I would study for the GED exam. The spotlight was put on the back burner and life took over. At the age of 17 I was invited to move out to California , not to become famous, but to live with my eldest sister. She believed it was time for me to grow out of the worker bee mentality and to start going after my dreams again. It took a while for me to get back into the sing of things. After five years and constant moving back and forth from east to west I finally got myself accepted into a school that included a performing arts department and nursing, something that I had become interested in over the years. Quickly I got back into my own rhythm. I would study for school and then I would practice my vocals. When I was good enough my sister, Moxie, would allow me to sing with her band, Backtrax. They were a great group and were just as excited as I to have me sing with them. Finally I decided it was time to strike out on my own. I looked through several ads online and found an open audition for back up. The day came and I was completely scared out of my skin. I sang of couple of songs and was delighted that I had a job. I was the newest member of Green smoke. |
